The Race

10th Annual Special Operations Adventure Race (SOAR) – June 9, 2012

This one-day race will be held in Highlands, in the challenging terrain of the beautiful Western North Carolina Smoky mountains.

Solo racers and teams of two will run, cycle, rappel, paddle and navigate throughout the day for approximately 50 miles.

Race Types

  • Sprint Race: 5 – 7 hours
  • Elite Race: 10-12 hours
  • Both races include mountain biking, running,  rappelling, water event, and orienteering.

Race Divisions

  • 2 person female team under 40
  • 2 person male team under 40
  • 2 person co-ed team under 40
  • Single under 40
  • Master (over 40 – divided into same categories)

Friday June 8, 2012

  • Location: Highlands Civic Center, US-64 and Laurel Street, Highlands, NC
  • Noon – 6:00PM Late Registration, Check-In, and Gear Check
  • 5:00PM – 7:00PM Spaghetti Dinner ($7.00)
  • 7:00PM Mandatory Pre-race meeting for all racers
  • NO ENTRIES AFTER 6:00 PM

Saturday June 9, 2012

  • 7:00AM – Start Elite Race – Main and Fourth St., Highlands NC
  • 8:00AM – Start Sprint Race – Main and Fourth St., Highlands NC
  • 6:30PM – After Race Dinner (food, beer, and wine – free for racers, $7.00 for all others) followed by Awards as soon as determined.
